Live Show

This live show was a 5-hour interactive music livestream on Twitch, meant to celebrate the channel's 5-year anniversary. The musician is an acquaintance of mine, so I planned it for him.

Event Goals

  • Celebrate the 5-year community
  • Ensure the viewers enjoy the show
  • Raise money through donations

Experience Design

The show lasted 5 hours to signify the 5-year anniversary. To interact with the audience, the following engagement mechanics were used:
  • Live chat
  • Merch giveaways
  • Guessing games with the streamer
  • Incentives & Overall goals: There were incentives that people could redeem if they donated a certain amount of money, as well as overall goals that people contributed towards with their donations
    • The incentives were better when the donations were larger.
    • Some goals/games lasted the entire show, so people wanted to stay until the end to find out the result.
    • The goals were getting better towards the end of the show to build up the hype.
    • There were stretch goals once the main goals were reached so that people feel like they have more to contribute to.

Content created for the show

  • I edited 2 video clips with highlights of previous streams to build an emotional connection, reminding people of all the important and funny moments.
  • I produced an AI song full of references to events that happened in the channel.

Tools used

  • Hitfilm for video editing
  • Streamelements to implement the goals & the merch giveaways

Outcomes

  • Donations: ~ 1100 GBP
  • Average number of Viewers: 63 over the duration of the stream

Lessons learned about Live Event Production

  • Things can change very quickly, and it's important to be adaptable and willing to make swift decisions when necessary.
  • Always have a plan B.
  • It's essential to test everything in the environment where the actual event will take place, as otherwise you may not notice situations you need to plan for.
  • It may be easy to feel disappointed when things don't go perfectly as planned, but this doesn't really matter as long as the people enjoy the experience.
